Parents of a special needs child reaches a major dilemma when their child reaches school age. They are faced with finding the best educational setting for their child. Is it best for them to place their child in public school or should they look for special education at a private school?

While federal laws have mandated that children who have special needs must be allowed to be educated in the public school system with accomodations, it is not always that simple. While accomodations to give a special needs child a fair start sounds picture perfect in theory it does not always play out the way it should. The parents become the child’s biggest, and sometimes only, advocate. Often times the teachers or administrators are not aware with the regulations that come from IDEA and ADA or other local statutes put in place for special education. This means it become the parent’s job to learn all of their child’s rights and inform the teachers about these statutes.

Private schools is another option for parents who feel the public school system is failing their child. In a private facility the child is more likely to get more attention than in a public school because they are specializing in special needs. In addition to that there is a lower student to teach ratio which is often very helpful when dealing with children who are overloaded by too many people. While private schools can offer a more specialized education it comes with a very hefty price tag that often are too much for many parents to pay.

Each option can offer good experiences for children with special needs. There is no best overall answer, there is only the best answer for each child individually. Public and private schools have their positives and negatives, it is up to the parents to choose what is best for their child to grow in.

Mathematics has become a field of study that is more diversified and developed than in past years. Higher end math such as trigonometry, analytic geometry, and calculus is being studied in schools by students at an earlier age than ever before. Math is a companion component in the digital age, and much technological development is contingent upon the study of mathematics, and computer sciences. This is a current reflection of the job market, and future analysis indicates that technical jobs are the future of right now.

The trend of increasing technological jobs means that young persons preparing for academic success and good careers will have to take more high end math. Calculus is an endeavor that incorporates all aspects of general math, and has a further complexity of problem solving. It may present a challenge for some. A tutor may be a necessary expense. A calculus tutor can take the fear out of it. A good calculus tutor can inspire a student to do well in the courses, and the student can become more successful.

In searching for a good calculus tutor, it would be good that they are accomplished in mathematics, or a related discipline. It should be evident that they have studied at least one year of calculus themselves and can prove that they are proficient. It is recommended that they are available for tutoring at least one hour three times a week. It takes this amount of time to become proficient in calculus. Also, the tutor should be paid scale fees for their work. It will keep them motivated to help the student do well in the subject. It should be considered an investment well spent for the future career and professional opportunities of the student.

A good calculus tutor plus a good student equals a great future and solid career.

For many years after the organization and implementation of the public school system, there were no other options for educating children. Parents were offered no alternatives because there were none available. There were laws in most states which required children to attend a public school until they were at least 16 years of age.

Through the years, as parents became dissatisfied with the public school system for various reasons, and pushed for legislative changes, many states began to allow students to be homeschooled by a parent or qualified adult family member. As a result of these changes, homeschooling is very common in many areas today.

The top four reasons why now is the best time to use a homeschooling teacher for your child are listed below:

1. There are more resources and support groups for homeschooling than ever before. Homeschooled students are given the same academic recognition as those educated in public schools. Some studies have shown that students educated in a small group setting receive a better quality of education that those in large groups.

2. As schools are larger and more crowded with a more culturally diverse population, parents feel that morality is lacking. They desire to be more in control of their child’s exposure to other young people. They consider homeschooling to be a safer and healthier option for the education of their children.

3. As religious inferences are becoming more prohibited, many parents prefer that their children not have those restrictions placed upon them. Therefore they opt for a more personal and less formal educational setting.

As with every issue pertinent to parenting, there are pros and cons connected with homeschooling. Parents must consider all aspects of being personally responsible for the education of their child, and make that decision which is in the best interest of the child.

Conditioning through experience is a very real condition. If your child has begun his school experience with an initial poor grade or response to math tests, his perception by his teachers will be negative and his belief about his own capability will be severely restricted.

All of our mental experiences are controlled through our brain’s neurotransmitters and the balance of chemicals in our brain. A shocking experience like a failing grade sends a message to your child’s brain that could imprint itself as an automatic fear response.

After all, how do we learn about fear. Is a baby initially afraid of a rat? That learning comes about through experience. That same kind of learned response occurs with a failing grade in math. The situation is made even worse by the teacher’s handling of a failing grade.

In some classrooms, the teacher thinks that telling the entire class what grade each student gets will motivate those students who get lower grades to work harder. Sometimes, there might be other factors besides working harder to improve your child’s grade. Learning disabilities are real and the amount of work your child puts into his studies will have little influence in his success in math.

The reality of the matter is that if your child has had an initial failing grade in math, your first reaction to the problem can influence if his failure is worked off by future success or if the failure imprints as anxiety or a nagging fear of failure. Sometimes, just the fear of failure can make a child under perform. Each child is different and you should not over react to an initial failing grade unless your child shows signs of psychological stress or his personality shows change in behavior.

Most teenagers would balk at the idea of summer school. Summer school means to most that they did not do well during the course of the academic year, and that they are being “punished”. With that in mind, summer school may not be a good fit for many teens because it may be money and time wasted for summer study. However, for the motivated teen who is doing well in school, and wants to get more credits toward graduation, summer school may give extra study to subjects they could not take during the course of the regular school calendar.

Teen summer school education offers rich opportunities in strengthening and expanding skills that are already good. Taking extra music lessons, or more individualized coaching in a sport will give the teen an extra edge when returning to school in the fall. Taking advanced classes and individualized studies give the student a broadened skill set that will build grades and self confidence. Summer school offers deepened learning experiences for the self-motivated teen who wants to learn more in a particular subject. This can be a great learning process.

Summer school programs that are teamed with cooperative work experiences and/or internships are an excellent way to round out a teen’s learning experience. Study, with the chance to earn summer money is the best of both worlds. This experience could lead to future academic endeavors and career opportunities. Cooperative education can be an excellent curriculum development, forging positive community involvement with youth activities.

Teen summer school education offers broad choices for those persons who can take the chance and gain meaningful academic and practical work experiences. These should be offered at every level in every district. School districts should work diligently with the community to insure that these are available for every student.

There is nothing really very simple in special education programs. The uplifting and gratifying part of our society is our brave attempts at making the future lives of special education student participants more pleasant and less frustrating. Some simple steps that can make a big difference in special education is continuity of format until absorbed and repeated and simple sharing of specific emotions.

When presenting a lesson in a special education class, the rigid structure must be adhered to as if connecting dots and not leaving out any connections because one assumes that they are understood. A participant in a special educations class does not make connections in an intellectual sense except in a mental sense. All connections in all situations for special education students have to have direct meaning to the student. It is my feelings, my needs, my wants, and my comprehension of what is going on that matters. Too many people assume that participants in a special education class are more altruistic than other students in non special classes. Just the opposite is true. The disability focuses the victim of the disability to be completely self absorbed.

Special resources for participants in special education classes are photographs of exaggerated emotions as shown in large detail on the faces of people. Flashcards of specific words representing that particular emotion can be used to focus an emotion to the language and the perception of that emotion.

Special resources are in class assignments that can be completed by those in the group who are the least developmentally or physically handicapped. They can act as tutors to those who can’t seem to finish the assignment and might turn to acting out in an attempt to cover for their inability to do the work. Always be aware that participants in special education classes know their limits and are extremely sensitive about them.

There are many online Nursing School Programs available to you today. In the past to earn your degree you had to attend a campus classroom and sit for hours at at time but with the many changes in the world today in technology and things going more towards the internet you have the ability to learn right from the comfort of your own home. You have the capability to earn your RN, BSN or MSN without stepping foot on a campus again.

There are many benefits to earning your degree online. The most popular reason is the ease of the class schedule and flexibility of the classes. With your classes being online you will be able to attend your classes in your pajamas if you like, unless you are enrolled in a video class in which you will be able to be seen by others.

Another reason for wanting to earn your degree online is the cost of tuition. The online courses do not usually need books so there is another savings for you along with another worry of trying to get to the books store to purchase new or used books for each course.

With earning your degree online you will not need to worry about driving to the campus, finding a parking place, purchasing alot of books, finding a sitter for your kids or scheduling around your classes.

The need for nurses is growing every year. All of these reasons will give you something to think about if you are considering an online nursing school program. If you are in the nursing field already and looking to increase your income and not sure how to accomplish your goal then you may want to consider talking to someone about the options you have with the online nursing school program.

The introduction of an online education system has been a beautiful thing for many families. Online education gives students the opportunity to learn from their home. People who live in extremely rural areas can take advantage of a public school system without the hassle of getting their children to school everyday on time.

Online education is also a perfect way to complement a home school environment. A parent is able to be a part of a child’s education without the concern that the student is not learning at the same level as other students. Parents work with certified teachers to make sure a student is getting a complete education.

Students who travel a lot or are unwell and miss a lot of school can take advantage of these online programs. They can choose to do lessons on weekends, at night, or whenever they have the time.

A student is allowed to work at their own pace in an environment that is more comfortable and controlled. Students with learning disabilities can benefit from this type of learning situation. Students who are advanced will also benefit from the online system. Working at their own pace ensures they are getting the information they need from each lesson without the interruptions or rush that is often a part of a classroom setting.

Online education allows a student to complete a lesson in less time than it normally would in a traditional classroom setting. A student has the flexibility to take longer on something that may be difficult for them or to quickly work through lessons that are easy for them. Lessons that are troublesome can be reviewed over and over until the student completely understands. Other online tools are provided that can help a student look at a problem from a different perspective.

Your first three steps to math love are:

1. Decide you can improve
2. Discover the problems
3. Design an action plan.

Decide You Can Improve

You may have despaired of ever improving your math scores. Perhaps you have experienced frustration and failure. Know that you can overcome your math anxiety because help is available for you. Your mind, given the right instruction, can comprehend math. An “I can” attitude is essential for any math improvement strategy.

Discover the Problems

Math is a cumulative subject and many concepts build upon earlier math instruction. This means that if you missed a critical concept at some point in your math education, that missing link will cause problems for you in subsequent math courses. If, for example, you were sick during the week your class learned to add and subtract fractions, you must still grasp that concept. A college testing center, tutoring center, or helpful schoolteacher should be able to give you some diagnostic tests to identify the missing bricks in your math foundation.

If you have previously done well in math, it may be the fast pace of a particular class causing your problem. If a less intense math sequence is available, you may grasp and retain more information than you would in a class that is burying you in new concepts before you can assimilate them. If one concept is holding you up, perhaps a helpful classmate or professor can give some extra help.

Design an Action Plan

Once you have the right attitude and have identified the problem, put an action plan in writing. Set measurable goals such as “take math diagnostic test Monday” or “see counselor about switching to Math 175.” Check off action goals as you go. Keep working the plan and success will follow.
