One of the most expensive additional costs is the uniform that your school requires. Almost all programs require that you order scrub tops and bottoms of a certain color. In addition to scrubs, many schools require a lab coat and a polo shirt as well. For these items, the schools generally choose the supplier and you must order from them because they put your school logo on the items. Another expensive cost is that of the medical equipment that you must have. Almost all schools will require you to purchase your own stethoscope. On average, a good stethoscope costs about 60- 80 dollars. On top of this cost, you may also have to purchase tape scissors, a pen light, blood pressure cuff, or other items. With this category schools usually give you lee way to purchase from any vendor you choose. When purchasing these items look for the cheapest deal that you can find because many vendors offer packages that may have all of the items that your school requires.
While the costs can add up very quickly, getting into a nursing program is a very exciting thing. If you find that the cost is too much, there are many scholarships available strictly for nursing students. Also, many schools have scholarships that available for nursing students as well.
